Power Tank Track PackTM Power Tank Track PackTM

The Power Tank Track PackTM is perfect for automotive hobbyists, track day enthusiasts, vintage car owners and small race teams. Basically, anyone that needs a portable high performance air source and can't carry a full compressor with them. The old, bulky, low pressure air tanks are a thing of the past.

For Track Day enthusiasts the Power Tank Track Pack allows quick and efficient wheel swaps from street to track using your shop impact wrench. Adjusting air pressure is a breeze and CO2 vapor contains less moisture than air from a compressor leading to less thermal expansion and more even tire temperatures. If you have mechanical problems you can use it for running air tools as necessary to get you fixed quick.

Small race teams can maximize their track rental time by being able to swap between wheel sets with different compounds much quicker than by hand. Repairs can also be performed quickly using air tools.

Rally Teams enjoy the benefit of being able to make repairs in the remote pits using air tools. As used by Team Hanson in the Rally America Series.

Vintage car owners who participate in races such as the California Mille or just enjoy going for a Club Drive with other Vintage enthusiasts can easily fit a Power Tank Track Pack in the back of their car for road side emergencies and repairs to keep going for the day and get to their destination safely and without having to call expensive tow trucks.

Product Details

The Power Tank is a product that addresses all the needs of high performance on-board/portable air. It consists of an aluminum cylinder of pressurized liquid CO2 which is released as a vapor through a special heavy duty regulator. The SuperFlow HPX regulator was designed by Advanced Air Systems, Inc. especially for this use. The Power Tank can air up tires, run air tools, etc., while out on the trail, the race course, the side of the road, or even in your garage. It is fast, affordable, and simple to use. It is light weight, portable, and reliable and it is THE fastest way to air up tires.

The Power Tank has the power and speed of a shop compressor and the portability and lower cost of some 12 volt compressors. Available in two sizes PT-10 (10 Gal.) & PT-15 (15 Gal.) The Power Tank Track Pack A system come complete with everything you need to start airing up tires. This includes the aluminum tank in either blue or polished (+$100), the solid aluminum handle/guard, the 25- foot DuraThane low temp. hose with fittings and air chuck, the SuperFlow HP C02 regulator, base, and the protective Speed Bag. The Track Pack B system adds the HD Tire inflator and the universal Tomco Super Coupler (makes switching between tools and/or air chuck a breeze).

FAQ

How long does it last? - This depends entirely upon how you use it. The PT-10 contains 10 pounds of CO2 which is equivalent to 82 Cubic Feet or 627.3 gals of air. Using a ½” impact wrench, that's enough to remove 72 wheels with one charge. Adjusting air pressure on a 255/35/19 tire from 35-40 PSI takes about 5 seconds or 1 pound per second. That means you can increase the pressure from 35-40psi 72 times. The PT-15 would give you half again as much energy.

Pressure - The outlet pressure is adjustable at the regulator from 0 - 200 p.s.i. constant pressure. Outlet pressure does not drop towards the end of tank like typical air tanks. Maximum flow rate at of the Superflow HPX regulator is 31 CFM! Compare that to any compressor flow rate and you\’ll see why a Power Tank is so much faster.

How It Works - The concept is simple. The POWER TANK stores its massive amount of energy as liquid CO2. The liquid CO2 evaporates inside the aluminum cylinder and builds pressure which is released as a vapor gas (compressed air) through the regulator. As the gas is used, more liquid evaporates inside the aluminum cylinder thus regenerating the pressure. Once the cylinder pressure reaches a certain level - normally 700 - 800 p.s.i. - the evaporative process stops until gas pressure is released again. CO2 gas is non toxic, non-corrosive, and totally inert. This means it is safe on your air tools, rubber tires, and metal wheels.

Thermal Expansion - Track Day enthusiasts and race teams will appreciate the fact that in most cases CO2 contains less moisture than air from compressors. If you point a compressor nozzle at the ground you will often see a wet spot. That's the moisture that comes out of the compressor tank. If you try this same experiment with the Power Tank the floor will remain dry. Drier air means that the thermal expansion of CO2 is less than that of compressed air which gives you less change in air pressure in your tires while on the track.

Powertank Compared to a 5 gal. airtank - We've all seen enthusiasts at track days carrying air tanks with compressed air to adjust air pressure. The truth is, these bulky tanks store very little energy. A PT-10 POWER TANK is less than half the size of a 5 gallon air tank yet holds 20 times the energy. As a comparison from the Off Road market, a 5-gallon air tank pressurized to 125 p.s.i. will air up two (2) 33X12.5" truck tires from 10 to 20 p.s.i. The PT-10 will air up thirty-nine (39) of the same tires. And get this! Each "air up" will only take approximately 20 seconds with the POWER TANK. [The PT-15 will do sixty (60) tires.]

Isn't a CO2 tank like a potential rocket on my vehicle? - No. Because CO2 is stored in a liquid form by nature it releases its energy differently than other "compressed vapor" gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, acetylene, or scuba tanks. With a compressed vapor like N2 and scuba the full amount of its stored energy in a tank is ready to be expelled all at once. That is why cylinders of these types of gases will "fly" in the case of a knocked off valve. In order for liquid CO2 to release its stored energy as a compressed vapor it must go through a phase change from liquid to vapor (essentially evaporate) through the absorption of ambient heat energy. This process limits the release speed of its compressed energy. This is how a person of small stature can hold a CO2 fire extinguisher in his/her bare hands and literally open the valve wide open while pointing the horn (nozzle) at the fire without getting blown backwards.

How Safe is it? - The components of the POWER TANK are all heavy duty and built for safety. The service pressure rating of our 6061-T6 aluminum cylinder is 1800 p.s.i. with a maximum pressure rating of 3000+ p.s.i. although the normal cylinder pressure range for CO2 is only 700 to 800 p.s.i.. There is also a safety "pop-off" valve built into the main valve set to release pressure if it ever reached 3000 p.s.i. (i.e. fire or accidental overfill). Our cylinders are brand new and are DOT Approved. The adjustable regulator limits the maximum outlet pressure to 200 p.s.i. Finally, the handle at the top doubles as a guard protecting the regulator and valve from getting knocked and damaged. It is made of solid 6061-T6 rod tig welded to a billet aluminum clamp and secured to the cylinder with 3/8" stainless steel bolts. Naturally, whenever handling high pressure equipment, precautions and common sense must be practiced.

How Do I Get It Filled? - Simply remove the regulator and take the aluminum cylinder to a local welding supply, beverage supply or fire extinguisher shop and ask for a CO2 refill. They will know what to do. Average refills cost $8-$15.

Warranty - The POWER TANK is the most reliable portable air system since there is essentially nothing to break down, burn up, or seize. It needs minimal maintenance (just keep it clean) and as long as you follow our simple operating instructions you will get years of trouble free use. We offer a one year free replacement or repair (our choice) of any manufacturer defective component (including standard ground shipping). After that, we offer a lifetime repair for a $20 fee on the regulator as long as the repair is possible.
